Automotive

The Automotive industry is focused on the design, development, production, branding, and the selling, renting, or leasing of cars (or any other type of motorized vehicle for that matter). It makes up a large and essential part of the global economy.

In 2018 a staggering 70.5 million passenger cars and no less than 25.1 million company cars were produced, for a total of 95 million. The most important producer of cars that year was the People’s Republic of China with 27.8 million vehicles, over a quarter of the global total. In the United States, 11.3 million vehicles were produced and Japan came in third with 9.7 million units. Germany took fifth place, after India, with 5.1 million units. Between 2000 and 2018 the annual worldwide production of vehicles has increased by 37 million units.

The Automotive industry is rapidly innovating in the area of sustainability. The emission of CO2 is being reduced, manufacturers are focusing on more sustainable means of production and electric vehicles are gaining in popularity. The Netherlands currently has over 100,000 fully electric cars. On the 1st of January 2020, at least 107,000 electric vehicles were registered in the Netherlands, 62,000 more than in 2019.
